31st May to 4th June, 2010
Alzheimer's disease is deterioration in memory and in the person's ability to carry out everyday activities, make decisions, understand information and express themselves. It may also affect a person's mood and personality. There is currently no known cause for Alzheimer's disease and there is no cure for the condition.
Today, 44,000 people and 50,000 carers in Ireland are impacted by Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia.
The North Kerry Alzheimer's Carers Support Group, based at the Listowel Family Resource Centre, was established to provide carers with mutual support, share experiences, source information, promote better awareness, improve local provision and lobby for change.
Alzheimer's Day Care, based at the Listowel Family Resource Centre, provides a stimulating, happy and caring environment for the Alzheimer patient.
The importance of making a will - Make a Will now for real peace of mind
It is a strange fact that around 70% of people have not made a Will, but the consequences of dying without one (intestate) can be serious. Everyone urgently needs a Will; if you do not make a Will you die intestate, which means that everything you own is distributed under rules laid down by law irrespective of the wishes of you or your family.
Without a Will, your wishes are ignored and you cannot control who will inherit your property after you die.
Most people know they need a Will but simply 'haven't got around to it yet'!
